ALGOMA, Wis–The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office believes an organized burglary ring is operating in the area. The department is investigating a break-in and robbery at a home in the 1500 block of Sheboygan Street in the town of Algoma around 2:00 Wednesday afternoon.
Doorbell camera footage shows a gray Toyota Highlander, with what appear to be Louisiana license plates, park in a cul-de-sac and at least one man get out. The man is believed to have broken into the back patio of the home, stealing cash, high-end purses, and jewelry valued at more than 100-thousand dollars.
The owners of the home are Asian and own jewelry stores. This fits a pattern of similar burglaries reported by law enforcement in the Omaha, Nebraska area back in 2020 and in Massachusetts in 2018.
The burglary ring is believed to operate out of Houston, Texas, and includes suspects from Honduras. The group does not use cellphones, has equipment to disable wi-fi based security systems, and stay at Hampton Inns, one of which is located next to the jewelry store owned by the victims in this case.
Anyone with information on break-in should contact the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office.
