Wolfgang Van Halen’s latest Mammoth WVH video, appropriately titled “The End,” invokes Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ in the most wonderfully-horrific ways.
First off “The End” is a ripper of a track which goes nicely with a slasher of a video.
Director Robert Rodriguez brings a little slice (and dice) of his “From Dusk Til’ Dawn” vibe to the video. Special effects, horror master Greg Nicotero (‘Creepshow,’ ‘Day of the Dead,’ ‘The Walking Dead,’) supplies the blood, gore and wonderful practical creature make up* (zombies, werewolves, vampires) that really propels this video to hell – in the best possible way. *Nicotero also gets a directing credit on the video.
The Video is scattered with crowd cameos including; Danny Trejo, SLASH, Myles Kennedy, Wolfie’s mom, Valerie Bertinelli, and his wife Andraia Allsop.
Plus a cool AF VH homage where tables are lined up for a Wolfie guitar solo ala his dad Eddie’s solo table stroll in the “Hot For Teacher” video.
The video ends with Wolfgang arm-in-arm with his wife, turning back to the camera with a freeze frame on his yellow cat-like eyes just like M.J.’s in Thriller.
Let’s just hope this isn’t “The End” to more videos like this.
“The End” is the first blistering new track from Mammoth’s new third studio album bolstering a summer tour announcement.
