Billy Idol has been making the interview rounds ahead of the debut of his documentary called Billy Idol Should Be Dead, and promoting his new album Dream Into It. In a recent interview with The Ankler, he told a story about how an old Saturday Night Live Skit led to Sting making love to his wife while pretending to be Billy Idol.
“Sting’s wife, Trudie [Styler], told me that when he went into the dressing room after playing me, she got him to have sex with [her] as me. So that was a great caveat to the sketch. She said, ‘[Screw] me as Billy Idol.’ And he did.”
The 1991 sketch on Saturday Night Live, “The Sinatra Group,” where Phil Hartman as Frank Sinatra hosted a talk show in which he did a group interview with “Billy Idol,” “Sinead O’Connor,” “Steve Lawrence” and “Eydie Gorme,” and “Luther Campbell” from 2 Live Crew.
In April, Billy Idol released his ninth solo album, called Dream Into It, featuring the song “Still Dancing.”
