Now that we’re past the July 4th holiday and the disgusting Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Glutton-a-Palooza, let’s turn our attention to yet another consumption competition
Joey Chestnut is the current reigning hot dog eating G.O.A.T. no disputing that – despite how grotesque it is to watch – but Gotham City is hosting another chow down throw down between goats as in, the actual furry kind of goats.
This Saturday, July 12th, New York City is hosting Goatham 2025: The Great Goat Graze-Off.
The event will be emceed by none other than George Shea, host of the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest and chair of Major League Eating.
The event features five goats – Romeo, Mallomar, Butterball, Kash, and Rufus – chowing down on invasive plants in a race against time. The first goat to finish a certain quantity of plants will be declared the winner – and race organizers believe the competition will last about one “fairly dramatic” minute.
Although Major League Eating once hosted a cross-species bun-eating competition pitting humans against elephants -final tally Elephants 1 Humanity 0 – this will be the group’s first-ever animal-only competition.
“We are very excited to get into this because in my view, it opens up the entire animal kingdom for our franchise,” said Shea. “I expect it to be as exciting as a human competitive eating contest. I’ve seen goats eat weeds, and their ability is remarkable. It is similar to a Joey Chestnut, who is less interested in savoring the flavor than he is in productivity, of getting the food down.”
