The 27 year run for Matt Cameron in Pearl Jam comes to a close today as the legendary drummer announced he is stepping away from the band. He explains how grateful he is towards the band who in return offer their gratitude of his services. Matt Cameron was the drummer who recorded the demos for Pearl Jam and was also in Soundgarden. What’s next for Matt? Who knows but more info will be out soon!
The 62-year-old Cameron, who will be joining the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame a second time as a member of Soundgarden in November, helped solidify the band’s lineup in 1998. He joined about a year after Soundgarden had broken up, replacing Jack Irons.
Up until that time, the drum position had been Spinal Tap-like, with Dave Krusen from 1990 to 1991, Matt Chamberlain in 1991, Dave Abbruzzese from 1991 to 199,4 and Irons from 1994 to 1998.
Pearl Jam fans had been wondering about the status of the band on message boards and Reddit for the past two months. That’s because during their last two shows of the year, in Pittsburgh on May 16th and 18th, Eddie Vedder repeatedly told fans that he didn’t know when the band would see them again.
