While Alice Cooper and Ozzy Osbourne weren’t exactly friends, there was a great deal of respect between the two icons of rock music. Last week while in London, on tour in support of the new Alice Cooper Band album called The Revenge of Alice Cooper, Alice spoke frankly about the death of Ozzy on Planet Rock.
“I was on my way to the stage (in Cardiff, Wales) when I heard about it, and I went, ‘Oh, that’s not right. He just did this thing [Back to the Beginning] I saw him. He was singing well.’ But, when it finally hit, it was just one of those, yeah… Even though you know it’s coming, especially with Ozzy. He certainly hasn’t been well for a while. But, what a shock to the system. And at the end of the show, I just said, ‘Everybody, let’s say goodnight to Ozzy,’ and everybody just [went], ‘Ozzy! Ozzy!’ So, I mean he was a very beloved character in rock.”
Then on Friday night, while wearing an Ozzy shirt, they covered Black Sabbath’s “Paranoid” with a little help from Johnny Depp.
After that tribute, some of the band members of the original Alice Cooper took the stage with the current line up and Johnny Depp to do “School’s Out.”
