An iconic piece of Star Wars history has sold for a Sith-load of credits – $3.65 million to be specific.
The film-used lightsaber was expected to fetch between $1 and $3 million, but that estimate was blown away, much like the Death Star.
The starting bid on the lightsaber, wielded by both David Prowse and stunt performer Bob Anderson in both ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ and ‘Return of the Jedi’, was listed at $500,000 according to the listing from Propstore.
The highest absentee bid for the lightsaber reached $1.2 million ahead of the auction.
The Propstore listing’s official description:
The red-laser lightsaber, which was used in the 1980 and 1983 films from George Lucas’ iconic “Star Wars” trilogy, has visible imperfections from being used in the fight scenes, with a top shroud cut away, a visible crack, chipped paint and scratches that show its use. The prop was specifically used in the famed galactic battle scenes between Vader and Luke Skywalker, including the memorable “I am your father” scene, in which Vader slices off Luke’s hand.
May The Force Be With You.
