In case you haven’t noticed, we’re being inundated / drowned every moment of every day by advertising.
On our computers / social media / phones / ears / eyes – literally everywhere all the time you simply cannot escape the Sauron-like gaze of advertising.
So you’d think that the bathroom, the most sacred of private spaces, would provide you with at least a moment’s respite from the crush of advertising / marketing – you would be wrong – at least where public restrooms are concerned. If you’re running ads in your personal bathroom, that’s kinda’ on you.
In those public bathrooms advertisers have a captive audience so why wouldn’t they take full advantage of that.
You’ve seen the stall door ads and both the print and video ads smack dab in front of your face while doing your business at a urinal. But now we have a new level of ad-creep – having to watch an ad BEFORE you are given toilet paper.
Public bathrooms in China are rolling out a system where you have to watch an ad before they dispense toilet paper to you.
You scan a QR code that plays an ad on your phone. Then the machine spits out a modest amount, like six squares. If you need more, you have to watch another ad – just pray it’s not a mudslide kinda’ day.
Don’t want to watch an ad? There’s also an option to pay a few cents for toilet paper instead. But it looks like you have to pay with your phone.
So if you don’t have it on you, you’re just (S$%t) out of luck.
