A biopic about the rock band Heart is moving forward, albeit slowly says band member Nancy Wilson.
In an interview with Laura Lee and Ross Maxwell of 105.7 WAPL, the younger Wilson sister said that despite recent roadblocks the movie is once again on track.
Says Wilson, “We’re still getting our script pounded out with Carrie Brownstein (of indie band Sleater-Kinney, sketch comedy show Portlandia). We’re actually about to have a powwow with Carrie. We’re looking at finishing the script real soon.”
The biopic was announced in 2020 and since then the project has been slow out of the gate due to uncontrollable circumstances, starting with the pandemic which dominated that year. Last summer in the midst of a tour, Ann Wilson had a procedure to remove a cancerous growth and has undergone chemotherapy to stifle any lingering effects.
“She’s pretty Teflon… she’s pretty bulletproof,” said Nancy. “We’ve been out on the road already for quite a while this year after we had to delay and she beat the ass of cancer and we came back out pretty victorious.”
One of the Heart tour stops this year included Milwaukee. However with all the delays, Wilson says the film project is moving forward.
“A lot of stuff got paused along with the tour but now we’re kind of back on track. We’re looking to polish up the script and start casting it pretty soon even though we had a delay in the process.”
Although no one has been cast as of yet, a few names have been connected to the project. In fact, two names being floated around to play the Wilson sisters are another set of acting siblings – Dakota and Elle Fanning.
“At one point they were really interested after the first draft of the script,” said Nancy Wilson. “So I would be really happy if they would still be interested when the script is… polished up and distributed around the actor’s community again. I know Elle Fanning can do some vocalizing and so can Dakota.” (Dakota played Cherie Currie in the 2010 biopic The Runaways about the 70’s female rock band featuring Currie, Joan Jett and Lita Ford.)
In a 2020 interview, Ann Wilson stated that Anne Hathaway showed interest in playing one of the sisters but didn’t “think she’s exactly right for it”. However, Nancy says never say never.
“I dropped her name at one point… way long time ago. We’re not counting her out for either ‘Ann’ or ‘Nancy’ or any involvement whatsoever.”
A clip of the interview with Nancy Wilson can be heard below. The full interview can be heard next week during WAPL Mornings with Laura Lee and Cutter.
Heart will be playing the Resch Center in Green Bay on December 4th. Cheap Trick is the opening act. Tickets are available at TicketStar.
