It’s called the “Pearl Jamboni” and it’s being used this season by Two Harbors, Minnesota’s Youth Hockey Association.
The association was in search of a local business to sponsor its new Zamboni when its board members decided on a whim to reach out to Pearl Jam – specifically executive director Jesse Lundgren, who’s a member of the band’s official fan club.
Lundgren wrote a note in the style of a concert poster asking if the band would consider sponsoring the Zamboni.
Lundgren was surprised to say the least when he got an E-mail response two weeks later from a band rep who was a hockey fan from Canada offering to take him up on the offer.
Youth Hockey Association secretary Stephanie Aho wouldn’t tell the Minnesota Star-Tribune how much the band donated, but it was a “sizable” amount that will cover for the “Jamboni” the next three years.
Pearl Jam designed its own art for the Jamboni, which is black with the band’s name on the side. A “PJ” in the school colors has hockey sticks crossed behind it.
