Back in the old gladiatorial days of the NFL there were so many documented vicious collisions, tackles, hits and de-cleaters that there was a cottage industry created of packaging these incidents on a VHS tape (look it up) and later as a DVD, where the NFL actually profited off player injuries. ESPN even famously detailed these in their “Jacked Up!” segment… until the time when we became concerned about concussions, CTE and the like.
SO who will fill the gap between clean, responsible form tackling and brain jolting targeting?
Apparently the Aussies have stepped up to fill that gap with the Run National Championship.
It’s a combination of rugby and skull-cracker drill but it is not without controversy.
If you’re just finding out about this, the Run National Championship (RNC) is where two competitors stand at opposite sides of a mat and run towards each other to collide head-on with the purpose of knocking each other down. The clash usually ends with the winner still standing and shouting, and the loser reeling on the ground, disoriented.
