Lydia Abate, who was featured in the TLC show Extreme Cheapskates, has turned “funeral tracking” into her full-time wardrobe strategy.
For nearly six years, she’s been scanning obituary listings, then offering grieving families a free estate clean‑out in exchange for keeping the vintage clothes of the recently departed.
She doesn’t re-sell the clothes she wears them.
She says as a result she hasn’t actually bought clothing in years.
According to her, it’s frugal, resourceful, and mutually beneficial … though plenty of people find the whole thing kinda creepy.
