The Cult’s “Fire Woman” was a gigantic hit off their 4th album, Sonic Temple. That’s not the last time you’ll be seeing the word Sonic in this article. That song has hit all corners of pop culture, but that’s what great songs do. From being a credit roll song for the show Severance to being used in the 2013 season of Doctor Who, it was even used in Formula One Racing. So you’ve got a song showing up in an award-winning drama series, a cult favorite time travel show, and sports. Might as well add video games to the list.
It was a Japanese rock band that applied it to the video game universe, kinda. The band is Crush 40, and they are mostly well known for doing the music for all Sonic the Hedgehog games released in the 2000s. On their 2009 album The Best of Crush 40 – Super Sonic Songs, they covered the Cult’s “Fire Woman,” making it feel right at home among the blue speed demon’s universe. In fact, if you search YouTube, there are plenty of fan tributes to a later Sonic character named Blaze the Cat.
