A Texas man (note I didn’t say “a SMART Texas man”) decided to test the aquatic capabilities of his electric Cybertruck – it did not go well (or hold water in this case).
Plus, “capabilities” is a bit of an over estimation, “limitations” is much more accurate.
Authorities arrested the man after he admitted to intentionally driving his Cybertruck into a lake off Katie Woods Park Boat Ramp in Grapevine, Texas.
The man told police he was testing the Cybertruck’s “wade mode.”
According to the Cybertruck manual, “wade mode” allows Cybertruck to “enter and drive through bodies of water, such as rivers or creeks.” HOWEVER the feature comes with SEVERAL warnings including the DEPTH of the water attempting to be traversed maxed out at 32 inches measured from the bottom of the tire.
The lake was much, much, much deeper than that.
The Cybertruck became immediately disabled and took ON water as the driver and his passengers abandoned ship…er… Cybertruck.
The driver was arrested with operating a vehicle in a closed section of a park of lake , not having a valid boat registration (which is pretty funny), as well as “numerous” water safety equipment violations charges.
