A startup company called Tornyol says it may have found another way to fight mosquitoes.
Tornyol engineers have developed an AI-powered micro-drone that can track and destroy flying insects much like a mid-air dogfight.
The company recently released video (below) of what it calls its first successful aerial takedown, with a tiny drone chasing and knocking a moth out of the sky during a test.
But their goal is bigger than mosquitoes. Tornyol hopes to build tiny versions of the drones weighing two ounces that use microphones, ultrasonic sensors, and AI software to identify mosquitoes by the unique sound of their wingbeats.
The company looks to the future where swarms of these drones are patrolling cities to eliminating mosquitoes without chemicals.
