It’s been some 40 years since the fictional town of Bomont, Utah (loosely based on Elmore City, OK) reinstated dancing due to the efforts of recent transfer from Chicago, Ren McCormack and friends, persuading the elders that the act of dancing was not evil.
Well “Ren” is back as real-life actor Kevin Bacon, alongside New You Governor Kathy Hochul, to celebrate the repealing of a decades old ban on dancing in New York.
Yes. This is/was a real thing.
That’s why Bacon’s celebrating the state of New York lifting restrictions on people dancing in bars and restaurants.
Until recently, the State Liquor Authority required applicants to have a special license if their establishment allowed dancing.
Governor Kathy Hochul teamed up with Kevin to announce that New Yorkers can finally CUT LOOSE, and be “Footloose” because they’ve, quote, “eliminated outdated restrictions on dancing.”
