We’ve all encountered roadkill (some on a daily basis depending where you live) at some point while driving and assumed that ‘dead’ is ‘dead’.
We’ve also heard stories of people assumed to be dead when they weren’t so, there’s always a chance, to paraphrase Lloyd Christmas.
A Texas deputy had a chance encounter recently with some roadkill – a dead deer to be specific. But the encounter was less recovery than it was recuperation.
As the (brave?) deputy approached the deer on the side of the road it suddenly came alive/awake (see ‘Tommy Boy’) and ran off into the night. But not before the Trinity County Sheriff’s Deputy let out a scream (AHHH! IT’S AWAKE!!!!) that would make Jamie Lee Curtis jealous.
And, as the news anchor said in the video, “He’s gonna’ have to live down that scream.”
Yeah, that may take a while as Trinity County Sheriff Woody Wallace shared the video online, where it has racked up more than 10 million views.
But good news (for the deer not the deputy) the sheriff says the deer made a full recovery and later disappeared into the East Texas woods.
