You can now listen to the conversation that original Van Halen members Alex Van Halen and David Lee Roth had on July 30th in Fargo, North Dakota with artist Robert Vargas — who painted the Eddie Van Halen mural at the Guitar Center in Hollywood in 2021.
The 15-minute chat, Beyond Boundaries: How Human Experience Informs Art and Music, marked Roth’s and Van Halen’s first public appearance together since Van Halen‘s final concert on October 4th, 2015 at the Hollywood Bowl.
They talked about the creative process and their approach, and Roth said that he and Alex are “diametrically opposed,” to which Van Halen said, “That’s what makes it work. I think that the most important thing in art is that you do your homework and you learn the basics and then you break all the rules. That’s how it works for us.”
