If you’re seeking ‘home security’ you could get a fancy-schmancy home security system, monitored 24 / 7 / 365. You could also get a dog. You could double down and get both – as a contingency plan. But if you do choose to make the dog a piece of your home security puzzle, just make sure the dog understands his duties as assigned and are clearly defined… or else it will just try to make friends with the intruder. An intruder broke into a home in the San Diego area earlier this month, in the middle of the day. The homeowners weren’t there at the time . . . but they were alerted by their surveillance system, which caught it all on video.
The family’s dogs WERE there, but they weren’t exactly intimidating.
The stand-out of the domestic doggos was Nash, a 90-pound golden retriever.
Nash actually carried his TOYS over to the intruder (several times) in an attempt to try to entice him into a game of fetch or maybe it was out of personal pride. Either way the intruder was more interested in just making himself at home.
That was until the actual home security system caught the activity and alerted authorities – who swept in (drones and all) and removed him from the property and was jailed for burglary.
As for Nash, the homeowners now have proof that he won’t be much help in defending the place against break-ins. But on the sunny side… he still a very good boy.
