APPLETON, Wis. — The Appleton Parks and Recreation Department releases the list of finalists for the new name of Veterans Park. The department put out a public call for nominations and the nine that will be presented to the Parks Committee next week include:
Eagle Ridge or Eagle Landing Park
Fox River or Fox River Bluff Park
Memorial Bridge or Bridgeview Park
Riverside or Riverview Park
Samuel Appleton Park
Heroes Park

Samuel Appleton is for whom the city is named, John Bradley was one of the flag raisers on Iwo Jima, and Amos Story was Appleton’s first mayor.
It will be up to the Parks Committee and the Appleton Common Council to select the final name. Veterans Park is being re-named as Memorial Park was re-named Veterans Memorial Park last year.
