Summer is Wisconsin means festival time and I’ve got a couple of suggestions for cool festivals you probably haven’t been to or maybe never even heard of.
First up on my schedule is the Blue Ox Music Festival in Eau Claire June 13-15. It’s three days of mostly bluegrass with some rock and folk mixed in. This year’s huge headliner “get” is Trampled by Turtles. The festival is super laid back with nice camping (mostly under trees) and I call it “right-sized.” Not too big, not too small. I’ve been to every Blue Ox since it started and I won’t miss it this summer, either. https://www.blueoxmusicfestival.com/
The second smaller Wisconsin festival I like is the Moondance Music Festival which is held at the MC Festival grounds near Gleason, WI (just northwest of Antigo) July 18-20. This festival is one of the most chill fests I’ve been to. Great people with fine attitudes basically throwing a really well organized party at some nicely appointed rural digs. Moondance, like Blue Ox, is mostly bluegrass but expands the musical horizons, too. I am super excited for this year’s feature headliner, The Marcus King Band. These southern rockers are tearing up the nation right now and getting some serious notice from the legends of the genre. I think I’m more jazzed to see Marcus King than any other band all summer…and that includes the major artists at Summerfest, Rock USA and all the rest. See you there! https://www.facebook.com/moondancemusicfest/
