It’s finally official, All Elite Wrestling will make its television home on TNT Wednesday nights, starting October 2nd. Dropping the trailer to their YouTube channel just after 11am today, AEW promise that their product will “hit harder,” “fly higher,” and “break all boundaries.”
The seeds for AEW began with the pay-per-view event “All In,” an independent wrestling event that took place in Chicago on September 1, 2018. That event, promoted by Cody Rhodes and The Young Bucks, featured talent from Ring of Honor, New Japan Pro-Wrestling, Impact, AAA, NWA, and more.
Following the success of that sold out, critically acclaimed event, Cody and the Bucks left their contracts with Ring of Honor and announced the foundation of All Elite Wrestling on January 1, 2019, along with the backing of billionaire businessmen Shahid and Tony Khan.
This was followed by a second PPV event (technically the first as AEW) called “Double or Nothing,” which featured attention-grabbing matches between Kenny Omega and Chris Jericho, Young Bucks and the Lucha Brothers, and Cody vs. brother Dustin Rhodes… as well as an appearance by WWE Legend Bret ‘Hitman’ Hart to unveil the promotion’s new title belt, many fans’ first introduction to characters like MJF and Luchasaurus, and a headline-making debut from Jon Moxley, formerly Dean Ambrose, who had recently left his contract with WWE.
AEW’s new weekly television show debuts the same week that WWE moves its Smackdown brand to Friday nights on FOX, giving pro-wrestling fans WWE RAW on USA Mondays, AEW on TNT Wednesdays, and WWE Smackdown Live on FOX Fridays.
