The DNR is announcing some new plans to deal with chronic wasting disease in the state’s deer population.
Natural Resources Board vice-chair Greg Kazmierski says they want to have a less aggressive approach. He says they tried to get rid of some of the deer population to try to stop the disease from spreading. He says many people didn’t like that method.
The DNR is adding more places where people can drop off deer tissue to have it tested for CWD. There will also be more dumpsters where hunters can put their carcasses. The state’s Conservation Congress is also recommending that the DNR teach more people about the disease.
The state’s archery and crossbow season opens on September 14th.
