A state lawmaker is proposing a bill to change the car seat rules for young children.
Republican Rep. Ron Tusler of Harrison believes it’s a safety issue.
Right now, kids over one year old and 20 pounds can be in a front-facing seat. Tusler wants to keep toddlers in rear-facing seats until they’re two.
He says medical studies show children are more than twice as likely to have less serious injuries, if they’re in a rear-facing seat.
Tusler is confident that lawmakers will support the bill. He hopes the Legislature will approve it before the end of the year. It wouldn’t take effect until 2022.
