The annual Scouting for Food drive will be in the spring, instead of the fall.
The Bay-Lakes Council of the Boy Scouts is making the change because of the concerns from parents. Spokeswoman Kristin Ely-Bluemke says many think it’s too busy in the fall.
She believes it might actually work out better for food pantries, because people tend to support them around the holidays, and maybe don’t think about them in the spring and summer.
Ely-Bluemke says they let more than 100 food pantries know about the change more than a year ago.
For the past three decades, the drive took place over two weekends in October. Next year, scouts will drop off empty bags on April 4th, and pick them up on April 18th.
