Police are going to be watching drivers and pedestrians around railroad tracks this week.
It’s part of a nationwide effort.
Menasha Officer Nick Oleszak says they want to make sure everyone’s following the rules. He says pedestrians can’t walk along the tracks, because that’s private property. He says drivers need to follow signs, and not cut in front of oncoming trains.
Oleszak says depending on what they see, officers could give people warnings or tickets.
Outagamie County has the fifth-most railroad crossings, among counties in the state. Winnebago County is sixth on the list.
Four people were killed, and 12 hurt around the state last year, in crashes at railroad crossings.
