A local advocate for victims of domestic violence says a report shows more people are being killed in rural areas.
Wendy Gehl of Harbor House in Appleton says that’s unusual. End Domestic Abuse Wisconsin found 38 people died from domestic abuse last year.
Gehl says they’re looking at ways they can change people’s behavior, through prevention efforts. She says that includes going to schools, and out into the community, to talk about changing the behavior that can lead to domestic violence.
Gehl believes a program that trains police officers to ask a series of questions when they’re on a domestic abuse call is helping.
