Train whistles will be going quiet in Appleton in just over a week.
The city’s ban will be in place at 12:01 a.m. on Thursday, October 3rd.
Traffic Engineer Eric Lom says the zone covers the main line that cuts across the city. He says engineers will still be able to blow their whistles along the other side tracks, and if there’s an emergency.
City staffers started the process of putting a quiet zone in place three years ago.
After making safety improvements at some crossings, they filed an application with the Federal Railroad Administration last year. It took about a year to hear back.
