A meteorologist at the National Weather Service office in Green Bay is retiring today.
Meteorologist Jeff Last spent the last 25 years in that office.
On his final day, he’s looking back on severe storms that stand out. One is an afternoon tornado that blew through Door County on a Sunday afternoon in August of 1988. He says others include the seven night-time tornadoes in August of 2013 that hit the Fox Valley, and the two straight days of severe weather this July.
Last says his love of the four seasons drew him into meteorology, but he can’t take the Wisconsin winters anymore. He’s moving to Florida with his wife.
He plans to pursue an interest in tropical weather meteorology there.
