A special committee is taking a closer look at any future needs at buildings in the Appleton school district.
The group will get together at least six more times, and it’s studying issues that go beyond overcrowding problems at some schools.
District Chief Financial Officer Greg Hartjes says they’re reviewing every school, because there are concerns some might be outdated. The district hasn’t built a new school, since Appleton North High School opened about 25 years ago.
Hartjes expects they’ll also consider a proposal to add STEM labs at some schools. He says the cost is beyond what the district can pay for, through its regular budget. He says every student in the district would have access to them.
The committee could put together some recommendations by the end of the year, or decide to continue meeting.
