The memory of a Green Bay activist is driving a new foundation looking to help the community.
The Canary Fund was founded following the suicide of Jim Rivett. Organizers handed out its first three grants earlier this year, and groups can start applying for the next round.
Rivett’s husband Pete Angilello says Rivett just wanted to make lives better, and they’re open to ideas that might help with unmet needs in the community.
The first grants supported an arts program for people with dementia, a group that helps Hispanics vote, and a shoe closet for Green Bay East High School students.
