Lawyers for Brendan Dassey want Governor Evers to pardon the convicted murderer and release him from prison.
Attorney Laura Nirider says Dassey was a 16-year-old special needs student when he confessed to the 2005 murder of Teresa Halbach. Nirider is asking Evers to wipe out his conviction, or commute his sentence.
She says Dassey’s confession is widely recognized as false and coerced.
The now 29-year-old Dassey was sentenced to life in prison, after a jury found him guilty. He’ll be eligible for parole in 29 years. His uncle, Steven Avery, was convicted in a separate trial, and he’s serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole.
