A more general vision for the future of Soldiers Square in downtown Appleton is now on the books.
The only specifics that are included in the latest version of the plan are to put two more war memorials there. The Spanish-American War memorial would be moved from Pierce Park, and the community would build one for recent conflicts.
Ald. Alex Schultz was pushing the proposal, and he made the changes.
The city council approved the vision, 8-5. Some members think the city should wait to talk about Soldiers Square, until there are more detailed plans for the Soldiers Square parking ramp site.
