The state’s top prosecutor hopes Governor Evers makes a decision on the Brendan Dassey case, based on all of the relevant facts.
Democratic Attorney General Josh Kaul talked with Action 2 News about a push by Dassey’s lawyers to get him released. He says there’s been a petition submitted, and there will probably be more information submitted. He believes Evers will make an “appropriate judgement when the time comes.”
Dassey’s attorneys are filing for a pardon, or to have the rest of his sentence eliminated.
Dassey was convicted of the 2005 murder of Teresa Halbach. The now 29-year-old Dassey was sentenced to life in prison, and he won’t be eligible for parole for another 29 years.
His uncle, Steven Avery, is serving a life sentence without the possibility for parole.
