The attorneys for two former UW-Oshkosh administrators are demanding that the state provide more proof they committed a crime.
Former Chancellor Richard Wells and former Vice Chancellor Thomas Sonnleitner are accused of breaking state law, by guaranteeing the school would pay back loans taken out by the UWO Foundation for some building projects.
Wells and Sonnleitner are arguing that because two federal judges found the UW System had misinterpreted the law, they didn’t break the law either. The motion also calls on the state to show that Wells and Sonnleitner knowingly violated state law.
Winnebago County Judge John Jorgensen will issue a ruling on January 15th.
