Proposed changes to eligibility requirements for food stamps could increase demand at local pantries.
The Trump Administration wants to prevent states from automatically enrolling people when they qualify for other assistance programs.
St. Joseph’s Food Program Director Monica Claire says they could go from helping 600 families a week to more than 800. She says the communities have stepped up in the past when the need grows.
Claire fears kids and the elderly will be most affected by the potential changes.
There are estimates that 40,000 people in Wisconsin could lose their benefits.
