The state Senate is trying to avoid a future backlog of untested sexual assault kits.
Republican Sen. Rob Cowles of Allouez says the state doesn’t have specific steps in place for what happens, once a test is finished.
Another bill would let victims check on where the kits are in the testing process.
The Senate approved both proposals and sent them to the Assembly.
The state worked for a few years to finish clearing a backlog of sexual assault kits.
