Technology is helping DOT crews in northeast Wisconsin inspect underground culverts.
Maintenance Roadway Engineer Matt Haefs says they’ve talked about using drones to help with bridge inspections, and that got him thinking.
He says Minnesota’s DOT developed a remote-controlled car that engineers can drive inside culverts. He says he designed his own version, and it has a GoPro camera that’s connected to an iPad that he holds onto.
Haefs says the state office will check in, on how it’s working, and it’s possible other regional offices could get their own.
