While Appleton is looking to use traffic circles for the first time, Greenville has had two smaller ones in place for several years.
Town Administrator Joel Gregozeski says they put them in, as a pilot, along Parkview Drive. That street is just north of Highway 15, and he says it acts as a frontage road for businesses.
He says theirs are eight-feet wide, while Appleton is proposing 12-feet wide circles. He doesn’t think Greenville’s have as big of a calming effect as a larger one would have.
But Gregozeski believes Greenville’s are still getting drivers to slow down. He says a raised crosswalk on the same street is also working well.
Appleton is proposing to put two traffic circles along Glendale Avenue, between Richmond and Mason streets.
