The mother of two girls murdered in Seymour is accusing police of mishandling their response.
The nonprofit law firm Legal Action Wisconsin is releasing a statement from the woman, six months after a man killed a four-year-old girl and a three-month-old baby.
The 35-year-old man was also found dead of a self-inflicted wound in the Main Street home. Investigators have said all three were stabbed.
The woman’s statement says she called police after he sexually assaulted her, and officers went to the house around 11:15 p.m. on April 18th. It says she begged officers to take action to protect her children, but after police weren’t able to contact the man they made no effort to enter the house.
Police didn’t go in until 8 a.m. the next day, and officers found the three bodies.
The law firm says the medical examiner estimates all three died between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m.
The mother is demanding that Seymour police review their practices and receive more training.
