Several groups are urging state senators to support the agriculture secretary before a potential vote today.
Governor Evers appointed Secretary Brad Pfaff in January. Republican Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald wants to replace Pfaff.
Doug Rebout of the Wisconsin Corn Growers Association says he’s confused by Fitzgerald’s stance. Rebout says he hasn’t seen any reason, or anything that he’s done that would warrant, in his opinion, not being confirmed. He believe it’s about politics.
The Wisconsin Cheesemakers Association and Cooperative Network are also reaching out to senators to call on them to keep Pfaff.
The nonpartisan Legislative Reference Bureau says it’s been at least 32 years since the Senate removed one of the governor’s cabinet secretaries. The agency’s records don’t go back any farther than that.
