When police in Brown County go to a standoff, they can now use “throw phones” to talk with people.
The Crisis Response Team is getting a set of “land-line phones in a box” that they toss into crisis situations.
Ashwaubenon Officer Zach Jaeckel says communication can often lead to a peaceful end to the situation. He says people often need to be able to vent, and talk to someone about what they’re going through.
Members of the Crisis Response Team have sometimes had to use their own cell phones, and take risks, to get them to the people involved in standoffs.
