For the first time in nine years, lawmakers tried to override a governor’s veto in Wisconsin.
Majority Republicans in the Assembly fell short of the necessary two-thirds majority on three separate vetoes. All of the Democrats sided with Governor Evers.
Lawmakers haven’t had enough votes to override a governor’s veto in 34 years.
GOP lawmakers wanted to restore $15 million to open a regional mental health crisis center in northern Wisconsin.
Evers also vetoed $5 million for doctors who care for people in state health care programs. His third veto gives his administration more flexibility to spend $500,000 to attract more health care providers.
