A New London man can avoid going to prison for his role in a deadly explosion in Waupaca County.
Thirty-eight-year-old Robert Mattes reached the same deal with prosecutors as the two other men charged in the death of Paul Casperson of Belvidere, Illinois.
Mattes will be on probation for one year. He won’t spend any time behind bars, if he stays out of trouble.
His father, Scott Mattes of Marion, and Kenneth Niemer of Clintonville were already sentenced.
Casperson was killed at a party in Marion in May, when a homemade cannon exploded.
