Well it would seem life’s changed for singer Sir. Rod Stewart. Gone are the ‘all aboard‘ halcyon days of hooking up with groupies and coke lines, replaced by hooking up train cars and Soo Lines. The 74-year old singer is a model train enthusiast of the highest order and has just showcased his 23-year passion project – a massive model of a New York/Chicago amalgam, circa-1945 U.S. city.
In an interview with ‘Railroad Modeller’ magazine, Stewart told the publication that it has taken the length of 13 studio albums and 19 tours to build it. He also revealed that he gets an extra hotel room on tour to house and work on the construct.
Stewart said, “When I take on something creative like this, I have to give it 110%,” he said. “For me it’s addictive. I started, so I just had to finish. I’m lucky I had the room. If I’d have realised at the start it would have taken so long, I’d have probably said, ‘No! No! Nah!'”
