Nearly half of the soldiers from an Appleton-based Wisconsin National Guard unit are back in the U.S., after spending about a year in Afghanistan.
They’re members of the 2nd Battalion, 127th Infantry and about 190 of them landed at Fort Bliss, Texas. They’ll spend the coming weeks there, going through the de-mobilization process.
About 400 soldiers from the unit are part of the deployment. The rest are expected to return relatively soon.
They’re providing security support to coalition forces on missions.
