The number of deer hunting licenses sold in the state so far is similar to last year.
Opening day of the gun season is Saturday.
The DNR sold nearly 539,000 licenses through Sunday. That’s about 500 fewer than last year.
The agency’s Kimberly Currie says they included all types of licenses, and they’re seeing a 10 percent increase in crossbow hunters. The number of licenses for kids under nine is up 62 percent from last year, to more than 3,600.
Currie once again expects Friday will be the busiest day of the year for sales.
