Prosecutors say a Green Bay woman kidnapped and held at knife-point by her ex-boyfriend didn’t think she could afford a restraining order.
Donna Meiselwitz of Harbor House in Appleton says there isn’t a cost for a domestic abuse restraining order. She says there are fees for some other types of orders.
Meiselwitz says people should reach out to domestic abuse agencies because they have advocates to help make sure victims aren’t paying for something when they don’t need to. If money is preventing someone from filing, she says that’s a real travesty.
Meiselwitz says they’ve seen others contact Harbor House, after an order was denied, to find out what went wrong. She says there is an appeals process.
