The DNR hopes more hunters get out in the woods in the area where chronic wasting disease was found in Sheboygan County.
The special “holiday” hunt starts next week, and the agency will be handing out more permits.
Ed Harvey of the Sheboygan County Deer Advisory Council thought the disease would spread into northeast Wisconsin, but he’s disappointed it’s happened already.
The DNR is asking more hunters to turn in deer samples for CWD testing.
The doe was killed during the archery season, in the Town of Plymouth, about 10 miles east of the Fond du Lac County border.
