Appleton schools are getting some donations to help children and families, if they’re falling behind on their school breakfast and lunch bills.
It’s something that’s also happening around the country.
District Chief Financial Officer Greg Hartjes says donors can put the money in a district-wide fund, or be more specific. He says some pick a certain school, or a family to help.
Hartjes says some families that don’t qualify for free or reduced-cost meals are dealing with financial challenges. Over the course of a school year, he says the total amount of money owed can be about $20,000.
